Assess. Diagnose.
Protect.
Coral Diagnostics applies scientific methods and technologies to assess, monitor, and diagnose the health of coral reefs — collecting the data needed to protect marine wildlife.
Modeled on the color reference scales field scientists use to grade coral bleaching severity.
Our mission
Understanding reefs, one diagnosis at a time.
Reefs are going quiet, and most of us won't notice until it's too late. Coral Diagnostics exists to close that gap — a non-profit built around the simple idea that you can't protect what you haven't measured.
We take scientific diagnostic methods into the water: assessing reef condition, tracking change over time, and turning what we find into evidence that holds up. That evidence goes to the people positioned to act on it — researchers piecing together the bigger picture, communities living alongside these reefs, and policymakers who need more than good intentions to justify protection.
No guesswork, no assumptions — just careful observation, recorded honestly, in service of the reefs and the marine life that depend on them.
01 — Assess
Field diagnostics
Systematic assessment of reef health using established scientific methods.
02 — Diagnose
Data collection
Reliable environmental data that turns observation into evidence.
03 — Protect
Conservation action
Findings that inform decisions to defend marine biodiversity.
Our vision
A future where reefs are understood before they're lost.
We want a future where no reef declines unnoticed — where every community, researcher, and policymaker working to protect coral has the data to back their case. Sri Lanka's coastline is our starting point, but the model we're building is one any coastal nation can use: consistent, science-backed monitoring that turns silent decline into evidence for action, before the damage is beyond repair.
Our values
What guides the work.
01
Evidence first
We record what the data shows, not what we hope to find. Conclusions follow observation, never the other way around.
02
Transparency
Our methods and findings are open to scrutiny. Conservation built on hidden data isn't conservation anyone can trust.
03
Local stewardship
We work from and for Sri Lanka's coastal communities, who live alongside these reefs long after any single study ends.
04
Collaboration
No single organization can monitor an ocean. We build with researchers, institutions, and communities, not around them.
05
Persistence
Reef health changes slowly and reveals itself over years. We're committed to watching that long, unglamorous timeline.
